Although it may be summer, that doesn’t always mean that the weather is nice enough to spend time outside!

Rainy days can often be difficult, when the kids are cooped up and don’t know what to do with themselves. Some fun summer activities for kids on a rainy day include:

Baking

Kids usually enjoy helping you to make something that they’ll enjoy eating at the end of it!

You can try baking some cakes and get their help measuring and mixing. This is a great chance to teach them some new skills.

Or, you can get them involved in dinner, by making a pizza together, for example, with their favorite toppings!

Treasure Hunting

Use your imagination and put together a treasure hunt for your kids that’ll keep them occupied for a while. If you make your clues a little tricky to decipher – but not so difficult that they’ll give up – it can keep their attention while they look for the prize around the house.

You can choose the prize: it could mean going out for ice cream, getting a new toy, or getting to choose what you’re cooking for dinner.

A Trip to the Movies

You could choose to venture outside to take your kids to the movies, but if that doesn’t sound like fun then why not recreate it at home? Get some DVDs together, heat up some popcorn and spend some time together watching their favorite movies!

Family Games

Many families don’t get to spend as much time together as they’d like, so use the bad weather as an excuse to spend some quality time playing board games together. These games are social, fun and educational. Use this as a chance to teach your child something new!

Local Indoor Venues

The chances are that there are a good number of venues in your local area that are suitable for a visit on a rainy day. You could take the kids to an indoor pool, bowling, to a local museum that caters to kids or anywhere else you can think of.

This may be more expensive than the other ideas, but it can often create a new opportunity to explore the local area, and they make really fun summer activities for kids.

Brave the Outdoors!

Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you can’t go outside! Kids absolutely love playing around in the mud and rain, so you could let them this once as long as they have appropriate clothing. When you get back home, you’ll feel warm and cozy again with some soup or a nice hot chocolate.

Fun summer activities for kids are still possible even when it’s raining outside! You just need to have a think and make sure you make suggestions before they start getting frustrated at being stuck indoors.
