In the summer, the hot sun and salty ocean or lake water can be a little hard on your hair. A good remedy is to use a hair mask, aiming for about once a week or so.

This will cleanse your hair follicles and moisturize your hair, so that it is left silky and smooth no matter how much swimming or sunning you do. Here are some super simple hair masks you can try out.

Use Coconut Oil Alone

The first hair mask is something you might have already heard of before. This is when you use just coconut oil as its own hair mask. Yes – you can definitely add coconut oil to your hair on its own!

Coconut oil is all-natural, healthy, and moisturizing. It helps with shine, reduces tangles, and gives you soft, silky hair you love to run your fingers through. When using coconut oil as a mask, always use unrefined, virgin coconut oil.

Add Some Lemon Juice

Another coconut oil hair mask is one that adds in some lemon juice to the oil. This is going to help reduce dandruff and buildup on your scalp. If you see white specks on your scalp or when brushing your hair, you probably have some buildup or dandruff.

You need something that will lift it from your scalp so that you can wash it away while shampooing. Lemon juice works great for this, while the coconut oil provided a healthy base for the mask.

Make a Honey Hair Mask

If you have dry or damaged hair, especially during the summer, you need something thick to add to your hair mask. This is where honey comes into play. As with all natural beauty products, you should be using raw honey, not the sugar-filled honey you find in your local grocery store.

To make this hair mask, use your raw honey with a little olive oil, and that’s really all you need. You can also use coconut oil that is melted if you prefer. Leave it in your hair for about 10-15 minutes before rinsing out.

Use Avocado for Shine

For some added shine, you can try making an avocado hair mask. This hair mask provides shine and increases protein in your hair follicles with the egg yolk.

All you need is one egg yolk and half of an avocado mashed and mixed with the yolk. Scoop the ingredients and add them to your hair, really applying to your hair down to the tips. Leave it in your hair for a few minutes while in the shower, then rinse out.
