Summer is the perfect time to pamper & nurture your skin with natural ingredients. Here’s some simple recipes using stuff right from your kitchen!
1 – Sugar Lemon Summer Lip Scrub
Dip a thin slice of lemon in sugar, then rub your lips with it. Wipe clean afterwards.
2 – Soothing Banana Foot Paste
Mash ripe bananas into a paste. (Ripe bananas are too acidic and will do more harm than good.) Rub all over feet including nail beds. Wait 20 minutes, rinse and repeat daily for two weeks.
3 – Coffee Exfoliating Body Scrub
Brew 10 to 12 cups of fresh coffee and let the grounds cool completely. When cool, put them in an airtight container. Add in some brown sugar and pour in liquified coconut oil – both to your to desired consistency for exfoliation. After use, tightly seal lid and store at room temperature.
4 – Coconut and Honey Weekly Hair Mask
Heat equal parts honey and coconut oil until melted together. Allow to cool before applying to your hair and leave on for 10 minutes. Can be used on dry or damp hair.
5 – Summer Hair Detangling Spray
Mix together equal parts distilled water and apple cider vinegar into a clean spray bottle. Add one tablespoon melted coconut oil. Shake well. Use on hair as needed.
6 – Sugar Honey Summer Face Scrub
Use two parts honey to one part coarse sugar. Mix together completely. Use mixture to gently rub facial skin, then rinse and moisturize.
7 – Soothing After Sun Baths
Soaking in a tub with these additives can help soothe your sunburn. You will want to use warm, not hot water.
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Oatmeal
- Chamomile Tea
- Baking Soda
8 – Soothing Sunburned Skin
Use a washcloth to apply directly to your skin to soothe the pain of sunburn:
- Cool (not cold) milk or yogurt
- Chilled cucumbers blended into a paste
- Mashed potatoes, cooled
- Make a cornstarch paste
Be sure to test a small area of your skin first if you have sensitive skin.

- Blueberries & sliced strawberries
- Orange & lemon slices
- Pineapple bits & mint
10 – Cucumber Sugar Scrub
Great for your body and your face – the coolness of cucumbers can also help to soothe the sting of sunburns.
You will need four slices unpeeled cucumber, 3/4 cup white sugar, and two tablespoons coconut oil. Add cucumber slices to a blender and puree until the skin looks like pepper flakes. Add the sugar and coconut oil and blend until oil is absorbed. Store unused portions in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
